Frequently Asked Questions
Account & Registration
Do I need an account to read?
No. Every published chapter is free to read without an account. You need one to write, comment, like or review, and to have your reading progress follow you to every device.
How do I create an account?
You can register with a Google account or with an email address and password. Both options are available on the sign-in page.
Can I change my username or handle?
Yes. Your display name and handle can be updated at any time from the Profile page. Your handle appears in your public profile URL and cannot be the same as another user's.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account from your Profile page. You are signed out straight away, and the account is permanently deleted 30 days later, together with every book you are the only author of, published or not. The Privacy Policy lists what is deleted and what is kept.
Writing & Publishing
What is a project?
A project is a writing workspace — it can be a novel, a short story collection, a serial, or any long-form work. Each project contains chapters that you can draft, organise, and publish independently. Readers see it as a book.
Who can see my chapters?
A new book stays private, invisible to readers, until you announce it or its first chapter is published, now or on its scheduled date. Draft chapters are private to you, chapters under private review are visible only to you and the reviewers you invite, and published chapters are visible to everyone.
Can I collaborate with other writers?
Yes. You can invite trusted readers or editors to review your drafts before you publish them. Invited reviewers can read your draft chapters and leave comments directly. Full co-authoring features are planned for a future release.
Is my writing saved automatically?
Yes. The editor saves to your device automatically as you type. Changes are synced to the server in the background. You can keep writing even without an internet connection — your work will sync when connectivity is restored.
Can I bring in a manuscript I already wrote?
Yes. When you create a project, import a .txt, .md, .docx or .epub file of up to 10 MB, and it is split into chapters for you.
What export formats are supported?
You can export a project or individual chapters as plain text (.txt), Markdown (.md), or Word (.docx) from the project workspace. PDF and EPUB export are planned for a future release.
How do I schedule a chapter?
When publishing, choose a future publish date. The chapter stays scheduled until that date, then is published on its own, within a few minutes, and you are notified.
Can I share my book?
Yes. Books, chapters and profiles have a Share button, and their links show a card with the cover (or profile picture) and title when posted on social media.
Reading
Is reading free?
Yes, all published chapters are currently free to read. A paid chapter system (using platform Coins) is planned for a future release and will be an optional feature for authors.
Can I read offline?
Yes. Once you have opened a chapter, it is cached on your device. On your next visit you can read it without an internet connection.
How do I find new books?
Browse the Discover page and filter by language, category, status, content rating, AI usage and content warnings. Your filters are kept in the link, so you can share them. Search is planned for a future release.
Can I save books to read later?
There is no library yet, but when you are signed in your home page shows the books you are part-way through and the ones you liked, so liking a book keeps it within reach.
Does Chaptergather remember where I stopped?
Yes. A chapter reopens where you stopped, and the chapters you finished are marked as read. When you are signed in, this follows you to every device. Authors see only totals — how many times each chapter was opened and how many readers finished it — never who.
Can I review a book?
Yes. Signed in, you can write a review of a book, with an optional rating from 1 to 5 stars. Its authors are notified.
Platform & Safety
What is the AI usage disclosure?
Before publishing or scheduling a chapter, authors declare how AI was used in their book: Human-written, AI-assisted, or AI-written; until then, the book shows no label. The label is shown on the book page, and readers can filter by it on Discover. Authors are trusted to declare honestly.
How do I report a problem or offensive content?
When signed in, you can report offensive comments, chapters, books, or profiles with the 'Report' button, or reach out to us via the Contact Us page.
Will I get notifications?
Yes. The bell in the header shows replies and messages from our team, reviews of your books, your chapters when they are published, and What's New posts. You can also turn on browser notifications in Settings, in each browser, and choose which of them are pushed.
Is my data private?
Your drafts, notes and new books are private until you choose to share them. See the Privacy Policy for how your data is stored and used.
How do I suggest a new feature?
Visit the Feature Requests board to propose an idea, vote on existing requests, and follow their progress.
